Collagen and elastin may hold the key to the fountain of youth. These two proteins keep your skin firm and resilient. Unfortunately, production of these proteins decreases as you age, which leads to lines and wrinkles. To help turn back the hand of time, the team at Primary Skin Care & Aesthetics in Beverly Hills offers dermal fillers to replace the elastin and collagen and improve the look of your skin. If you’re considering dermal fillers for your skin, call the office or book an appointment online.

Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are FDA-approved injectable implants. They’re used to plump and smooth out the skin to lessen the effects of lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are also used to fill in lips and smooth out recessed scars.

As an invasive procedure, Dr. Acosta uses a local anesthetic to minimize pain when injecting the filler into your skin. The procedure itself takes about 15 to 30 minutes.

Dr. Acosta recommends dermal fillers for patients with realistic aesthetic goals, who are already in good health and don’t smoke.

What types of dermal fillers are available?

Dr. Acosta offers a number of different lines of fillers, including Juvederm®: Voluma & Volbella, Radiesse®: Belotero, and Restylane®: Silk, Lyft, Refyne, & Defyne. Each line of dermal fillers offers a variety of options that differ in composition, degree of softness, and longevity. He also offers Kybella®, a cosmetic injectable, that rather than plumping up wrinkles is used to eradicate a double chin. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, it destroys fat cells providing a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin.

After an examination and consultation, Dr. Acosta will determine which filler works best for you and your specific aesthetic need.

All the lines of fillers used by Dr. Acosta are hyaluronic acid fillers. Each line offers fillers used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, enhance your cheeks, or give you fuller lips.

What happens after the dermal fillers are injected?

After the injection, you may experience mild swelling and bruising. It may also appear that your skin was “overfilled.” But over a few days the skin heals, and the area will recede slightly so your skin appears plump and smooth, but not too filled.

After the procedure, you’ll be able to return to your usual activities. Although Dr. Acosta may recommend you refrain from exercising for a day or two following the procedure.

The results from the dermal fillers are not permanent, but last for up to 12 months. The good news is you can get another dermal filler as soon as you notice the effects of your previous filler wearing off.

If you’re considering dermal fillers to reduce the signs of aging, it’s best to have them done by an experienced physician. As a physician for more than 40 years, with more than 15 years in aesthetics, Dr. Acosta has the experience you’re seeking.

What is PRP?

PRP is a cosmetic injection that gives your body the ability to heal and rejuvenate itself and naturally improve your appearance. Dr. Acosta uses HEALON HD Medical PRP, which is a blood product that contains high concentrations of growth factors and proteins, which when injected into your skin, recruits and synthesizes cells to promote healing and make new collagen. The treatment creates newer, firmer skin to restore your natural beauty.

PRP injections add volume and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and can be used in place of fillers.
